Music composed for sound art project by Nodes Performing Arts (New York)
Produced by Nodes Performing Arts, Make Music New York, and the University of Edinburgh, New Music Collage was a cross-continental program that featured live performances of over 60 newly-composed vignettes in an eclectic patchwork of composers from around the world.
Each composer was asked to write a one minute piece for violin, clarinet in B-flat, tenor saxophone in B-flat, and trombone, after which the staff at Nodes Performing Arts assembled these small pieces into one continuous work. The piece was then performed in public on June 21, 2013, the Summer Solstice. The performances were in Edinburgh and New York, performed on the same day.
The piece I wrote was titled ‘Bells’, and was inspired by the overlapping tones and rhythms of Church Bell Ringing. It was also performed at the Tolbooth (Stirling) on 18/2/14.
